Re workshopping, I'm reading Felician Rose Chavez's The Anti-Racist Writer's Workshop, and though I haven't experienced classic workshop yet, from what I read about it, I kind of don't want to? I would rather someone started a trend of multiple ARWW's like I'm reading about in her book, so I can join in. Outside of the academic setting, ideally -- why should only those with the time and money (and youth) to invest in extended academia get the chance to do it? :)
